We are delighted to announce the accreditation of our first Scottish Guardianship Organisation, Academic Families, based in Edinburgh. Academic Families provide guardianship to students attending schools throughout Scotland and England, and have host families throughout the UK. Alison Blythe, Chair of the AEGIS Trustees, will be attending the first Conference for Boarding Schools in Ireland on Wednesday 16th November 2016 to talk about the importance of good guardianship. It's Private Fostering Week!
Private fostering is when a child or young person under 16 years old (or 18 if they have a disability) is looked after for 28 days or more by someone who is not a close relative, legal guardian or person with parental responsibility. Close relatives include parents, step-parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
Some host families may therefore be class a Private Foster Carers and the Local Authority must be notified of care arrangements.
