Founded in 1880, JCG has been at the forefront of girls’ education in Jersey for over 125 years and has a well deserved reputation for academic excellence and service to the island community. Our exceptional academic results are a testimony to the personal and collective success of all at JCG. Students go on to study at good universities, both in the United Kingdom and across the world.
We believe that learning should be fun and exciting. We want to harness our students’ natural enthusiasm and curiosity and encourage them to ask probing questions and to reflect on their learning. The College has a tradition of encouraging students to think for themselves and with appropriate support and guidance, to take responsibility for their own learning.
We help students to identify the ways in which they learn the best and we encourage them to build on their strengths. Challenge and the acquisition of new transferable skills are key elements which are integrated into our teaching programmes.
As an academic school, our excellent GCSE and A Level results reflect the high achievement that we expect from our students. We expect them to be the best that they can be and achieve the results that they are capable of achieving.
Great emphasis is played on the importance of having a rounded education, with a balance of the Arts, Sciences and creative subjects. Innovation is a key element of our curriculum. We have a superb purpose built Design Centre, where our students are taught Design Technology, Art, Photography, Home Economics, Textiles and Media Studies in our light, modern facilities.
The College offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs, including Drama, Big Band, orchestras, ensembles and chamber choir. There are numerous other activities on offer at lunchtime and after school, as can be seen in our Enrichment Booklet, giving information about extra-curricular clubs and activities.
All international students will benefit from being completely immersed in an English environment through home boarding with local JCG and Jersey families. Advantages of the home boarding model include quicker integration into UK life and an enhanced rate of improvement in spoken English which improves an understanding of British language and culture. Every effort is taken to ensure that our international students are housed in a caring and supportive home where they can fully appreciate the benefits of island life, and maximise their learning experience.
