The school</strong>

Plymouth College is a non-selective, co-educational school based in the bustling maritime city of Plymouth, with the magnificent moorland, countryside and coastal landscapes of Devon and Cornwall close to hand.

Plymouth College has been at the forefront of education in the South West of England since 1877 and, whilst quietly conscious of its past and traditions, it remains forward-looking and dynamic. Today the focus is resolutely on preparing young people for the demands and expectations of the 21st century and for living in a world which is rapidly changing.

Education</strong>

We seek to produce young adults who have gained confidence in learning, have been happy and secure in the process, and who have achieved their full potential in a diverse educational environment. Good teaching, with a variety of activities and a high standard of care, underpins our educational aims. You can see the success in this approach through our GCSE and A-level exam results, which are consistently above the national average.

Education at Plymouth College goes beyond the classroom. We offer a wide range of activities and each pupil is encouraged to broaden his or her horizons. We cater for all abilities, but for those at the top of their game we boast a high performance swimming programme that claims Olympic and World champions. In addition, our Modern Pentathlon and Fencing Academy, as well as our Diving Academy, are home to a number of international athletes.

Music and Performing Arts is a busy department with school productions and regular trips to the theatre. We offer a mix of musical ensembles and our musicians perform in concerts across the city. Pupil destinations include the Royal College of Music, the Brit School and Italia Conti Academy of Arts.

Our enrichment programme also includes a range of after-school clubs and outward bound opportunities, such as Duke of Edinburgh, Ten Tors, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, drama and art clubs.

Boarding</strong>

We welcome pupils from the UK and all over the world and typically have boarders from more than 40 different countries. Boarding at Plymouth College gives pupils the chance to live life to the full and allows them a head start in living independently.

A home from home, the boarding houses are run by an enthusiastic, experienced and friendly team of resident staff. The team is responsible for all aspects of boarding pupils&rsquo; welfare, whether it is comforting them when unwell, celebrating successes or just making sure homework is done!

There are a range of activities to keep boarders occupied in their free time. Off-site pursuits include tenpin bowling, ice skating, cinema trips, surfing, moorland walking, horse riding and many more.
